Social Realism sprung from the 1950/60s, they became critically and commercially sucsessful very fast. When they came to cinemas it hit off with the working class as they enjoyed watching films that they could relate too. A huge profit was made and it could be seen as the working class hitting back at the goverment.
Social Realist films are films that could very easily be real life events, which is why so many people enjoy them. Social realist films allow the audience to connect with the film as they may have experienced some of the occurances in the film in their own life.
