Plot Research
As I have chosen to base my film around mental illness, I will have to familarise myself with the symptoms and possible consequences of bipolar, schizophrenia and gender dysphoria for my film to be accurate.
Bipolar disorder
Bipolar disorder is a condition which effects your moods which makes them swing to one extreme to another.
These swings usally alternatate between depression, where you feel very low about yourself, and mania, where you feel very overreactive and high. The most common use to treat bipolar disorder is medication and pyschotherapy.
Schizophenia
Schizophenia is a long term mental health disorder that can cause:
hallucinations - hearing or seeing things that do not exist
delusions - unusual beliefs not based on reality which often contradict the evidence
changes in behaviour
conrfused and muddled thoughts
Around 1 in 100 people can be effected by Schizophrenia. It is most often diagnosed between ages 15 and 35, both men and women are equally effected. The cause of Schizophenia are unknown yet scientists seem to think that its due to genetic or enviromental factors.
Gender Dysphoria
Gender Dysphoria is when a person feels very uncomfortable and distressed as there is a mitchmatch between their biological sex and gender identity. The cause of gender dysphoria is unknown yet research suggests that it could be down to abnormal development in the womb. There is no real cure for gender dysphoria, some feel so distressed that they even wait to they can get a sex change.
